Privacy policy

1. Who is responsible?

This privacy policy covers the iPhone app Neat! and this website (neatapp.nl). Questions about this policy can go to privacy@neatapp.nl or through the contact page.

2. What data does the app process?

None that reaches us. Neat! sends nothing to us, and nothing to third parties for advertising or analysis. There is no login with us, and no server of ours exists.

The following is created by you and lives in your own device's storage:

• The rooms you create, with their name, icon and colour.
• Your chores: name, notes, how often they repeat, how long they take, any checklists.
• When you ticked a chore off, which is what the statistics and your streak are based on.
• The first name you enter at first launch, purely so the app can greet you. You may leave it blank.
• Your preferences: language, light or dark appearance, whether notifications are on and at what time.

This data lives in the normal iOS app storage. We have no access to it. The app contains no advertising SDK, no crash reporter and no analytics package, and it reads no device identifier or advertising ID.

3. Syncing through your own iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud on your iPhone, Neat! syncs your rooms, chores and history through the private database of your own iCloud account. That is why your data comes back when you set up a new iPhone.

Concretely:

• Your data goes to Apple, not to us. We have no server and cannot look inside your private database.
• That storage is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
• If you are not signed in to iCloud, or iCloud Drive is off, the app simply runs entirely locally. Syncing is a bonus, not a requirement.
• If you would rather not have it, turn iCloud off for Neat! under Settings → your name → iCloud on your iPhone.

The app contains groundwork for sharing a household with other people later. That feature is not available yet and nothing is currently shared with anyone. If it does arrive, we will update this page before it goes live.

4. Notifications

If you turn notifications on, the app schedules at most one notification a day with what's due, plus a short weekly recap on Sunday. That happens entirely on your device: the contents are worked out locally and do not travel via a push server. Notifications are off by default and you can switch them off again at any time, in the app's settings or in those of iOS.

5. Sharing what you choose to share

From the dashboard you can generate an image summarising your week and share it through the standard iOS share sheet. That only happens on your initiative, and the app you pick in that sheet (Messages or WhatsApp, say) determines what happens to the image from then on. We never see it.

6. Backups

Besides the syncing described above, your data is also included in the backup your iPhone makes itself, locally or via iCloud depending on your settings. That backup falls under Apple's privacy policy, not ours.

7. This website

This site sets no cookies, loads no fonts or scripts from other parties, and uses no visitor analytics. That's also why there's no cookie banner: there is nothing to decline. Our hosting provider does keep standard server logs (including IP address, timestamp and the page requested) to keep the site running and to prevent abuse.

If you email us, we use your address and your message solely to reply. We won't add you to a list or send a newsletter, apart from the single message you explicitly ask for if you want to be told about the release.

8. Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects data from nobody, children included.

9. Your rights under the GDPR

The GDPR gives you rights including access, rectification, erasure and portability of your personal data. For the app those rights are effectively already in your own hands, because we hold nothing about you:

• Access and rectification: everything is in the app and you edit it there yourself.
• Erasure: use Reset everything in the settings. That wipes your data on the device and in your iCloud private database. Deleting only the app leaves an iCloud copy until you clear it in your iPhone's iCloud settings.
• Objection or restriction: there is no processing by us to object to.

If you have emailed us and would like that correspondence deleted, let us know at privacy@neatapp.nl. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — in the Netherlands the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

10. Changes

If something about the app changes such that this policy no longer holds — for instance if sharing a household with other people goes live — we will update this page before that feature ships, and note it against the date at the top.
